Does Top Lane SUCK For Climbing?
Date: 02/25/2023
Now you could argue that each lane in LoL has its pros and cons for climbing the ranked ladder in any meta/patch. Although Top lane is always seen as the weird little brother you only see twenty minutes into the game, minus a rotation or two for Rift Herald or Dragon. You could be having a perfect lane phase, good cs, a kill or two but if the enemy bottom lane is a combined fifty and zero it's not gonna matter in the slightest. Yes, you can teleport gank bot or gank a pushed up mid-laner with no wards but it's always been difficult to have an effect on the map as a top laner, especially in low elo.
Rift Herald was SUPPOSED to address this concept and was the whole reason Riot implemented a pre-baron top lane objective, I think most people are generally happy with how it functions. Forcing the jungler to at least acknowledge that the lane exists and prioritize pathing up there at some point in the game, but the lane and the whole top side of the jungle still seems almost empty?
I am stumped on how Riot could help fix this problem, Rift Herald seemed like the obvious choice and for higher elo and pro play it worked, but for ninety-nine percent of League players Top lane will probably be an island forever.
Now is Top lane really the worst role to carry in SoloQ? As a Top lane main I would say yes, no matter how much I try to be apart of the game and attack objectives it always just seems so punishing for the laner. Especially if you DONT bring teleport with you, good luck not being useful for twenty-five minutes until its time to teamfight, or if you just always get a hundred kills in lane then you are probably gonna climb and you’re probably smurfing anyway..
But what do I know, I suck at League.
